Giannis Ioannidis

Giannis Ioannidis (Greek Γιάννης Ιωαννίδης) is a Greek New Democracy (ND) politician and famous ex basketball coach.

Giannis Ioannidis was born in Thessaloniki, and studied Agriculture in the Faculty of Geotechnical Sciences in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. During his youth he became member of Aris Thessaloniki basketball team by the age of 15 and later coach managing to conquer 12 league titles and participating in 3 FIBA European Championship Final Four. Later, he worked in AEK, Olympiakos and in the Greek Basketball Team. He is considered to be the best Greek basketball coach, since he is the one with the most titles won (all together 18). He announced his retirement from professional basketball in 2004, before he was elected a New Democracy MP for the Thessaloniki A constituency in the 2004 general election.

Ioannides is married and has one daughter.
