Note: the term "gibibit" is a theoretical word based on constructions found in the IEC binary prefix naming scheme. Though intended to be morphologically parallel to "gibibyte" the word "gibibit" has no known practical application.[1]


A gibibit (a contraction of giga binary binary digit) is a proposed unit of data or computer storage, which can be abbreviated as Gibit or Gib.

1 gibibit = 230 bits = 1,073,741,824 bits = 1,024 mebibits
