Girl of the Limberlost

A Girl of the Limberlost, a novel written by the American writer and naturalist Gene Stratton-Porter, was first published in August, 1909. The story takes place in Indiana, in and around the Limberlost Swamp, during the early 20th century.
The novel is set in Indiana. Most of the action takes place either in or around the Limberlost Swamp, or in the nearby town of Onabasha.
Elnora Comstock is a poor girl, living with her widowed mother Kate Comstock on the edge of the Limberlost swamp. She makes plans to attend high school in town, despite the objections of her cruel mother. Elnora sells items from the swamp, notably moths, to fund her education.
Eventually, Kate Comstock learns the truth about her philandering husband's death on the same day that Elnora was born, and is reconciled with her daughter.
