The 3rd Global Knowledge Conference or GK3 as it is known, is a gathering of 2,000 global visionaries, innovators, practitioners, and policy makers, all geared towards sharing knowledge and building partnerships on a platform created by and for stakeholders in every sector - private companies, governments, international organisations and civil society groups.

The third in the internationally well-received Global Knowledge (GK) series, this conference is based on the theme of "Emerging People, Emerging Markets, Emerging Technologies". It showcases a dynamic focus on the interplay, interface and interweaving of issues related to Knowledge for Development (ICT4D), and Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D) within the context of our evolving societies, economies and technologies worldwide.

Prior to GK3 were the first Global Knowledge (GK) Conference held in Toronto, Canada in 1997, and the 2nd Global Knowledge Conference, better known as GKII, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2000.

This third conference in the series looks at different aspects emerging within communities and the world-at-large, and how these may be harnessed in sharing knowledge and building partnerships in order to improve the well-being of people. Some themes of the conference include: Me too!!! Creating inclusive opportunities; Tools and Infrastructure for Open Networking, Digital Footsteps and Rapid Demographic Change, User-driven Technologies for Everyday Life, SkiLLearning: Navigating the Next Knowledge; and Innovation Sans Frontières. Delivered in a framework of expert panels and workshops, it is designed to ensure maximum action, interaction and reaction among the attending leaders, change agents and solutions providers across sectors to exchange and debate concrete possible realities and solutions of the future from our learning today.

GK3 is spearheaded by the Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) Secretariat and supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), and Microsoft Corporation.
