Gold Label Records is an independent Hong Kong-based entertainment company launched with the support of EMI. In 2004, former Go East Enterainment CEO Paco Wong decided not to work with Universal Group Hong Kong(the parent company of Go East)again by signing new contract but to work for EMI Hong Kong as they promised to launch a new label and Paco Wong will have total control of the label, Gold Label Entertainment.

All products of Gold Label Entertainment share the same ISRC and bar-code system with EMI which include, "07243-", "00946-" and newly released "50999-". Gold Label under EMI has released the first DRM-free music downloading agreement with Hong Kong's local mobile brand CSL mobile. In addition to marketing and distribution, the company is also involved in artist management and concert.

EMI Music Hong Kong decided to spin-off its local activities to Gold Label, leaving itself to concentrate on international artists. The company has also taken over EMI Hong Kong's local artists roster, which includes Kary Ng, Stephy Tang, Cookies, Ping Pung, Edmond Leung. With the launch of Capitol Music Taiwan by EMI, the company is now working to market Taiwanese diva Jolin Tsai in Hong Kong. The label has signed local singers Miriam Yeung and Sandy Lam, and together with re-shaping local stars Ronald Cheng, Leo Ku and Edmond Leung, the company is now one of the largest music companies in Hong Kong.

The company also promotes new artists. Justin Lo, a singer-songwriter from the United States, won all new artist's awards in Hong Kong in 2005 by having the top-10 best selling records in Hong Kong 2005.

Gold Label Entertainment is one of the largest labels in Hong Kong with over 30% local sales within the region. When EMI cooperated with Paco Wong (former CEO at Universal Music Group Hong Kong) to set up his own label in 2004, EMI gave all her chinese rosters to Paco Wong with all control over music and management contracts. EMI Hong Kong is now leaving herself in managing adn arranging international releases and promotion in the region while all chinese records promotions and releases have been given to Gold Label. According to IFPI Hong Kong, Gold Label owned local best-selling rosters including Leo Ku, Justin Lo and Stephy Tang. However, the label in 2007 is facing the problems of new challenges brought by rising Universal Music Hong Kong and Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG) and with the leaving of its own diva Miriam Yeung.

But in comparing with other labels, the label owns the nearly all the best-selling South East Asian rosters including Stefanie Sun, Jolin Tsai, Amei, David Tao, Nicholas Teo, Show Luo and Stanley Huang.

The label is named one of the best promotion in the region as they are not just using traditional media in promoting but involving so-called new media. For every new local releases in 2007, the label has spent a lot on TV ad promotion and also they have booked the place in the MTR stations such as the TV screen, the train and the billboards. They are also doing the same for other asian rosters.

The label was originated as a small artist management agency. Paco Wong was named the "Golden Agent" in Hong Kong as he helped lots of successful artists to build up their careers including Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau, Aaron Kwok, Sammi Cheng, Miriam Yeung, Sandy Lam, Leo Ku. Usually speaking, the rosters from Gold Label Management are signed to its music department when they start their singing career. When EMI Music Hong Kong has not spin-off the local activities to Gold Label Entertainment, Gold Label Management was already home of EMI's rosters such as Edmond Leung and the Cookies.

The label also set up a new division of movie productions. The division has produced over 20 local movies and they have proven that they were in great success as most of the box offices of their products are over HK$8,000,000 while their products are relatively low-cost. They also do movie distribution and releases including DVD/VCD and movie promotion.

The company has also started in concert production since 2004. The first concert they ever produced was Miriam Yeung's KungHiFatChoi Concert Vol.3 in Feburary 2004 with East Asia Entertainment, Abbas Entertainment Hong Kong and Yiu Wing Entertainement. With more independent and experiences, they are now producing concerts for their own rosters on their own with outsourcing to other entertainment firms and production houses. The other concert productions include Edmond Leung's I love Kicthen Concert, Jolin Tsai's Pepsi Dancing Diva Live Hong Kong, Leo Ku's Magic Moments Live 2007, Stephy Tang's See Thru Concert 2007 and Kary Ng's Lady K Concert 2008.

Asian artists represented in Hong Kong by Gold Label:

  • Mark Lui (雷頌德) (songwriter/producer) (until 2005)
  • Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅) (singer/actress) (2003-2006)
