"Gone Away" is a song by The Offspring, from the 1997 album Ixnay on the Hombre. This song, according to the DVD side of their Greatest Hits album, has helped many fans through hard times in their lives.
The song is about grieving after the death of a loved one. There are several rumors as to whom it might be about, the most common being that Dexter Holland wrote it after the death of his first wife (mother of his daughter Alexa) in a car accident. But he avoids the subject (and song) in interviews and has never confirmed or denied any rumor. Also, on the Greatest Hits (DVD Side), he and Noodles talk about Gone Away and there is no indication that it is about any one particular person.
