Amarillo Gorillas
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Amarillo Gorillas are a minor league hockey team that is based in Amarillo, Texas. The team is affiliated with the Central Hockey League. The Gorillas began play in the Western Professional Hockey League in 1996 as the Rattlers, the name they would carry until an ownership change in 2002. Oddly, as the Rattlers, the team frequently finished at the bottom of the WPHL and CHL divisions, but they have made the playoffs every year since becoming the Gorillas. The Amarillo Gorillas currently play in the Amarillo Civic Center.
On February 15, 2007 city leaders, Civic Center staff, and Gorillas staff came to an agreement to keep hockey in Amarillo through at least 2012.
The team's head coach is Jim Wiley.
