Elwood City Grebes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Elwood City Grebes are a fictional baseball team from the TV series Arthur. They were supposedly cursed because the manager took away the World Championship game winning ball from a kid who chased it down; but a relative of the former manager found the baseball and put it on the kid's grave to reverse the curse, and the Grebes ended up winning the World Championships.

The Grebes may be based upon the real life Major League Baseball franchise Boston Red Sox, who were supposedly "cursed" after the departure of Hall of Famer Babe Ruth and did not win a World Series for 86 years following Ruth's departure from the Red Sox. This may also be because three Red Sox players (two of which no longer play for the team) were the basis of three players on the Grebes (centrefielder Johnny Damon as Playmon, shortstop Edgar Renteria as Bateria, and relief pitcher Mike Timlin as Winlin).
