Guy Fletcher

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Guy Fletcher (born May 24, 1960 in Maidstone, Kent) was the keyboardist to the popular British rock band Dire Straits. He has also been involved in most of Mark Knopfler's solo work to date.

Fletcher was born into a musical family; his uncle, also Guy Fletcher, has written several hits for other artists with composing partner Doug Flett. In 1981 he joined Roxy Music for a world tour.

In 1983, Fletcher was recruited by Dire Straits' lead guitarist Mark Knopfler for firstly non-Dire Straits projects, the first one being the music for the film Cal. He joined Dire Straits itself in 1984, a year before Dire Straits' most successful legendary album, Brothers in Arms, which put the band in the spotlight.

After Dire Straits disbanded, Fletcher continued to be associated with almost every single piece of work concerning Mark Knopfler's solo career, the band's former lead singer and guitarist. Between late February and August, 2005, Fletcher completed a world tour with Mark Knopfler, promoting Knopfler's latest solo album, Shangri-La and in 2006 rounded off the duets tour with Knopfler and Emmylou Harris. As of January 2006, Fletcher is also working with Knopfler on the latest Knopfler album.

Guy Fletcher is married to Laurie-Ann and has two children, Max and Leon.

Fletcher is a multi-instrumentalist, playing keyboard and several string instruments, including guitars.
