Hadi Al-Amiri is the head of the Badr Brigade (also known as the Badr Organization), which is the military wing of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI). Moreover, he is a member of the Iraqi parliament[1] under the United Iraqi Alliance list, which mainly represents religious Shiite parties, some of which are strongly pro-Iranian.
As leader of the Badr Brigade, Hadi Al-Amiri has very close ties to the Iranian leadership, and in particular the Islamic Revolutionary Guards which was responsible for training the Badr Brigade during Saddam Hussein's rule. Hadi Al-Amiri was also one of the first Shiite politicians to call for regional autonomy in the south of Iraq.
