Tapton Hall of Residence is one of the many halls of residence at the University of Sheffield.

It is the oldest hall at the university, scheduled for demolition before 2009. It is advertised, perhaps misleadingly, as the newest hall because of the detached 'Hallam Gate Court' - offering en suite rooms - which was recently built.

It is the smallest of the catered halls, housing approximately 400 students (mostly first year undergraduates but also with a few higher years). It is also situated next door to the Music Department building (they both share the very extensive "back garden").

Tapton does however house many of the biggest idiots at the University of Sheffield, those who were unable to cook for themselves, and din't realise they would need to learn this for second year. Not only this, they also are one of the worst halls, but still better than Ranmoor. The JCR is made up predominately of losers, and all their events deemed 'wild' by themselves are actually pathetic.

Tapton's location is not of importance. It is a state of mind. It is located less than a mile from the central campus of the university - it takes approximately 10/15 minutes to walk to the Student's Union from Tapton. It is also located close to Broomhill and Crookes, which have many shops to cater for student needs.

Because of the area's hilly terrain, the main entrance is actually on "Level 2" of the hall: bedrooms in the eastern wing at this level are actually on the second floor (according to British usage), with Level 1 below.

The Junior Common Room is made of students who stayed in the halls the previous year and are elected into positions at the halls for the next academic year. They look after the well-being of the students and organise social events such as the renowned Tapton Hall Ball, which takes place in November each year.

The Senior Common Room consists of a mix of university staff and postgraduates, living on-site, whose responsibilities include offering pastoral care and support to all students living within the hall as well as dealing with any discipline issues that arise.

Most of the time however, they dish out fines for no reason and generally punish the students for standard behaviour, which should be expected of all residents of university halls.

Rating out of ten, very average. Probably a 2. They sit apart from the rest of the students and do pretty much nothing constructive. If you want some extra money, a free ride and you possess no social skills, then this is the job for you.

Tapton has its own bar, lounge and dining room (since it is a catered halls). They all extend out into the garden. The bar (officially known as JCR1) is open every night, and there is always some event to keep students occupied. The room JCR2 (which is located off the bar) has two pool tables, a table football game, a dart board and a TV. Tapton is often host to business conferences, particularly during the university holidays when beds can be rented. Otherwise the Courtyard Rooms are used for meetings. Tapton JCR has organised a weekly outing to leadmill (since kingdom shut at the end of 2006) on a Monday night. However most students attend Gatecrasher or other Sheffield clubs instead.

The members of the 0D are also excellent indoor cricket players, many of whom expect to pursue a professional career in the game during some latter stage of their lives.
