The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is a hotel-casino located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The property has a 646 room hotel and 30,000ft² (3,000m²) casino. The hotel will undergo a major expansion to be completed in 2009.

The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is an expansion of the Hard Rock Cafe franchise.

It is known for its youthful appeal, elaborate swimming pool area (home of Rehab), and exclusive nightclub Body English. Along with The Palms (another off-strip resort) the Hard Rock both appeals to the 21 to 30 crowd and those who enjoy the Neo-retro feel of Las Vegas.

Contents

The hotel was opened in 1995 by Peter Morton, a co-founder of the Hard Rock Cafe franchise.

On June 27, 2002, John Entwistle, the bassist of The Who, died at the hotel from a heart attack.

On April 6, 2006, professional skateboarder Danny Way acid-dropped off the guitar on the cafe into a quarter pipe setting a world record.

On May 11, 2006, Morton agreed to sell the property to Morgans Hotel Group for $770 million. The sale and transfer of ownership was completed in February 2007.

The Hard Rock Cafe, which sits on an adjacent land parcel to the hotel, was featured prominently in the 1992 Disney movie Honey, I Blew Up the Kid. The "blown-up" toddler in question grows to giant size and plays with the cafe's huge Gibson Les Paul guitar before wrecking it. The hotel itself was featured in the film Con Air with Nicholas Cage — the fugitive plane crashes through the hotel's prominent Fender Stratocaster guitar.

The hotel is featured prominently in the 3rd season episode "Vegas Baby, Vegas!" of the HBO series Entourage. It also appears in the season 1 episode "The Strip" of FOX's The O.C., and on MTV's Bam's Unholy Union.
