Hassan Shehata

Hassan Shehata (Arabic: حسن شحاتة) is a renowned Egyptian football coach, currently the head coach of the national Egyptian football team.
Shehata used to play for the Egyptian club El Zamalek and towards the end of his career he played for the UAE's El-Zafra. He played at the 1974, 1976 and 1980 African Cup of Nations.
He replaced Marco Tardelli in November 2004 as Egypt's head coach. Previously, he coached at the Arab Contractors Club, leading Egypt to victory at the 2003 African Youth Championship.
In the 2006 edition of the African Cup of Nations, which was hosted by Egypt, he managed to bring Egypt to the finals against Côte d'Ivoire. Egypt won the game and the cup, which provoked Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to personally congratulate Shehata, and even personally award him his medal.
Shehata did, however, have a serious row with Tottenham Hotspur's striker Ahmed Hossam (Mido), which resulted in Mido getting kicked off the national team, and was banned from playing with Egypt for six months by the Egyptian Football Association. Shehata, however, did allow Mido to accept his medal at the closing ceremonies of the African Cup of Nations, after Hossam had made a public apology a few days before.
His son Kareem plays for the Arab Contractors and was elected for El-Zamalek board of directors last year[1]
