Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

On an extremely warm July day, Garfield tries to think up ways to stay cool. After drinking cold beverages and using a wading pool don’t work, he pushes the refrigerator-freezer outside and uses the icemaker to cover the yard with snow. Jon initially dislikes the idea, but then he decides to go along with it.

To further make the day feel more winter-like, Garfield convinces Jon to put up Christmas decorations. One of Jon’s neighbors does the same thing to keep up with him; others follow suit and soon it looks like Christmas all over the city. The next morning, Jon, Garfield and Odie exchange presents and then prepare to sing carols door-to-door until a newsbreak comes on stating that it is July, not Christmas.

Later that night, Garfield is awoken by noise in the living room. He goes in there and finds a visitor, to whom he tells that it isn’t Christmas. He then goes back to sleep as the visitor, Santa Claus, leaves.
