Hemne is a municipality in the county of Sør-Trøndelag, Norway.
Hemne was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Heim was separated from Hemne January 1, 1911. Snillfjord and Vinje were separated from Hemne July 1, 1924. Vinje, and the western part of Heim, were again merged with Hemne January 1, 1964.
The administrative centre of the municipality is Kyrksæterøra.
It is bordered on the east by the municipalities of Snillfjord and Orkdal, on the south by Rindal and Surnadal, and in the west by Aure and Halsa. To the north, across the waters of the Trondheimsleia lies Hitra.
The name (Old Norse Hefn) originally belonged to the fjord Hemnefjorden. The name is derived from the word höfn f 'port, haven' (referring to the good port of Hemnskjel).
Until 1918 the name was written Hevne.
The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1991). It shows five hazelnuts. (There is a large hazel wood in the municipality.)
