Heng Fa Chuen Station
Chinese: 杏花邨
Literal meaning: Almond Flower Estate

Heng Fa Chuen is a station on the Hong Kong MTR Island Line. It is the only station on the line that is at ground level. The MTR depot for the Island Line is located Northeast to the station. The station is located in the heart of Heng Fa Chuen. The livery of the station is Orange Red. Heng Fa Chuen is one of two stations on the Island Line that has no platform screen doors. The other station without such doors is the adjacent Chai Wan terminus which is located above ground. It is one of two Island Line stations that haave opposing side platforms, as opposed to side platforms on different levels of a station.

Contents

Before opening on May 31, 1985, names proposed for this station actually included: North Chai Wan (北柴灣站), Agonar or A Kung Ngam (阿公岩站), Chai Wan Quay (柴灣碼頭站), and Pak Sha Wan (白沙灣站). It was after the opening of phase one (of the Heng Fa Chuen development) that prompted the MTR to change the name to Heng Fa Chuen. This station was primarily one for construction workers in the early 1980s, during the construction of Heng Fa Chuen.

Both platforms 1 and 2 are located on ground level, with the rails running right next to each other through the middle of the station. Therefore, commuters have to pick the specific escalator from the concourse that leads to their desired platforms.

There is only 1 exit (Exits A) in Heng Fa Chuen. (Note the Exit has split to A1 & A2, but technically A1 is for Entrance & A2 is for Exit) They both lead to the west and east entrances of Paradise Mall, the only shopping centre in Heng Fa Chuen. Heng Fa Chuen had been the only station on any MTR lines that had only one exit/entrance, but it is now sharing this title with the Airport, Sunny Bay and Disneyland Resort stations after their respective openings in July 1998, June 2005 and August 2005.
