Hergiswil is a municipality in the canton of Nidwalden in Switzerland.

It was founded in 1378 and now has a population of 5300 of which 12.5% is of foreign nationality (2003). The area of Hergiswil is 17.00 km².

There are 460 local businesses which employ 2400 people. 4% of these are in the agricultural sector, 21% in trade and industry, 74% in services.

The main sights of Hergiswil are: an old clergy house, the church, the chapel Maria zum guten Rat, old mansion Thumigerhaus, and a glazier's workshop with museum. This workshop was established 1817, burned down once but is still working!
