Hickory Grove, Illinois

Hickory Grove, Illinois is an unincorporated community of about 2,300 people that reside on the outskirts of the city of Quincy, Illinois, it would be considered Quincy's second largest suburb, the largest would be North Quincy.

For the most part, the location of Hickory Grove is spread out a little under a mile along Broadway from 60th Street to 70th Street. Several other locations exist of Hickory Grove, which are spread out along Interstate 172. This includes the Columbus Road/Wisman Lane interchanges and the Rim Road subdivision on State Street.

In 2004/2005 while constructing the Prairie Crossings Shopping Complex, Hickory Grove protested it saying it would bring more congestion into the area and fear that it may bring urbanization, or ultimately the annexation of their community which happened in later 2004.

  • Hickory Grove houses a tavern, a used car dealership, church, community center, Hanger 57 (Clothing Outlet Store), and Quincy Raceways.
  • Sometimes Hickory Grove is referred to as the Mill Creek township, due to the fact that Mill Creek travels through the city, in fact more people recognize it as Mill Creek than Hickory Grove. This is because the name on the 2 water towers in the town. However, it cannot officially be called Mill Creek, Illinois because another town in the state has that name.
