Hikaru Genji (光GENJI) was a Japanese musical group run by Johnny & Associates from 1987 to 1993. They were named after the character Hikaru Genji of the Genji Monogatari. The popular group SMAP started out as backing singers for them.

In 1993 Mikio Osawa and Hiroyuki Sato left the group, the remaining members formed Hikaru GENJI SUPER 5 which was disbanded a year later. Of these five, Uchiumi Koji, Morohoshi Kazumi, and Yamamoto Jun'ichi have since left the company. Only Atsuhiro Sato currently remains with Johnny & Associates, as Akasaki Akira was arrested for possession of methamphetamines on October 28, 2007 and fired the following Monday..Johnny's Web.
