Hoei Shin

Hoei Shin was a Chinese Buddhist monk. After a voyage into the Pacific, he reached California. He called this land Fusang after a plant growing there.
There were Chinese Buddhists were different from the original Buddhists and had a different view of religion. They decided that they needed to spread their religion to all lands. Hoei-Shin was a Buddhist missionary. He was one of the many Buddhists who went to spread the religion around the lands. He traveled 20,000 (Chinese) miles to the east. This put him on the west coast of Mexico. He traveled from china to Japan, past Korea, along Aleutians, south of Alaska, down to the west coast of America down to the west coast of Mexico. There are still large groups of natives and Europeans that are still Buddhist. The area in Mexico that Hoei- Shin ended up in was then named after a succulent plant found that he found in the land. The natives used this plant for food, paper, cloth and rope. He named the area after the plant Fusang.
