Hospitality management is the name given to the collegiate academic major in which students are taught the travel and tourism-related business (Bank, Consulting.

Since 1893, the École hôtelière de Lausanne is the most famous hospitality school in the world. Based in Switzerland, this legendary school currently offers various types of degrees. The primary programme, where students are educated in international hospitality management, leads to a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. Additionally, a prestigious MBA, the Master in Hospitality Administration (MHA) is offered. EHL has educated more than 25,000 hospitality industry executives who now make up a prestigious network for every member of the EHL community. In addition to this international recognition, EHL continuously broadens the scope of its academic programmes by integrating market trends and new technologies through projects done in collaboration with industry partners, applied research and consulting.

Within North America, the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University is hailed as the US leader in hospitality research and undergraduate education. The school is the only hospitality program within the Ivy League. The Hotel School (as the school is commonly known in the United States), offers a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree and a graduate Masters of Hospitality Management (MMH) degree. The Cornell Hotel School's curriculum highly values leadership and hands-on experience. Courses range from standard business classes such as accounting, economics, finance, and marketing, to lectures in wine tasting, beer, sustainable hotel development, etc.

For the United States, the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Education, published by the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education, annually ranks the top hospitality management programs. These routinely include[citation needed]:

Johnson and Wales University, with multiple campuses around the country, focuses exclusively on hospitality management, with an emphasis on cooking and restaurant management. Lexington College in Chicago is noted for being the only hospitality management college designed exclusively for women.

There are two major accreditation bodies for hospitality schools, the Accrediting Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA), and the Commission on Accreditation of Hospitality Management Programs (CAHM).
