Gy is the thirteenth letter of the Hungarian alphabet, preceding H and succeeding G. It represents a voiced palatal plosive /ɟ/. In Hungarian, the letter's name is "dyay."

This is the only way it is used in Hungarian. In Hungarian, even if two characters are put together to make a different sound, they are considered one letter, and acronyms keep the letter intact.

These examples are Hungarian words that use the letter gy, with the English translation.
  • gyám = guardian
  • gyep = lawn
  • gyík = lizard
  • gyom = weed
  • gyufa = match
  • agy = brain
  • ágy = bed
  • ügy = affair
  • hegy=mountain
