I'm Sitting on Top of the World

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"I'm Sitting on Top of the World" is a popular song.

The music was written by Ray Henderson, the lyrics by Sam M. Lewis and Joe Young. The song was published in 1925.

The song was first recorded by Al Jolson, but since by many other artists.

Jolson's recording was played during the opening montage of 1930's New York City in the 2005 remake of King Kong, and in the closing sequence of the 1995, U.S. - U.K. film, Richard III.

The song has often been covered and become a regular staple of many blues artists. In many versions the title has been abrigded to "Sitting On Top of The World".

In Decembre 1970 the Jelly Roll Kings--featuring guitarist Big Jack Johnson, drummer Sam Carr, and keyboardist/harmonica-player Frank Frost--recorded the song for their 1971 album "Off Yonder Wall" (reissued 1997 by Fat Possum Records) as "Sitting On Top Of The World".

In 2004, Jack White (The White Stripes, The Raconteurs) covered it as "Sittin' On Top of The World" for the original soundtrack (OST) of the movie "Cold Mountain".

Other notable interpretations were recorded by these performers: Les Paul & Mary Ford, Doris Day, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Dizzy Gillespie, Jerry Lewis and Bill Monroe. (Source: CarlinAmerica.com)
