In Demand

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Demand (capitalized as a trademark as iN DEMAND) is a provider of pay-per-view and subscription video-on-demand services, jointly owned by Comcast, Cox Communications, and Time Warner Entertainment. It is the world's leading supplier of PPV and VOD programming as well as HD programming through its HDTV channel- INHD.

Programs shown on iN Demand include movies several months removed from theaters, various sports packages (MLB Extra Innings, MLS Direct Kick, NBA League Pass, NHL Center Ice, and NASCAR), concerts, live boxing, PRIDE Fighting Championships, WWE, UFC, TNA, and K-1 kickboxing and other special events.

Due to the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show controversy, Christian right groups have protested the three cable companies, as In Demand allows for the showing of uncensored material. Such material, which includes the uncensored VOD program Howard TV, a television show with episodes based on the Sirius Satellite Radio shows (which became available in November 2005), has prompted some members of Congress to propose legislation to allow the Federal Communications Commission to regulate all paid subscription services, including satellite radio and the internet.[citation needed]
