I Forgot to Remember to Forget is a country song written by Stan Kesler and Charlie Feathers. It was recorded in Sun Studios by Elvis Presley, Scotty Moore, and Bill Black in July, 1955, and released on August 20, 1955 along with Mystery Train (Sun 223). [1] It was rereleased by RCA Victor (#47-6357) in December 1955. The song reached the Billboard national country music chart #1 position by February 1956, and remained there for 39 weeks, longer than any other Presley recording. This #1 rating would outlast that of "Don't Be Cruel"/"Hound Dog", released in 1956, by 11 weeks. It was the first recording to make Elvis Presley a national known country music star. [2] [3]
