"If It's Lovin' That You Want" is a pop-reggae song written by Samuel Barnes, Scott La Rock, Mosely Makeba, Jean-Claude Alexsander, Lawrence Parker Oliver for Rihanna's debut album Music of the Sun (2005). Produced by Carl Sturken, and Evan Rogers, it was released as the album's second single after the success of her debut single, "Pon de Replay". The song peaked at number 33 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, becoming Rihanna's second top 40 single, and second Top Five hit the UK singles chart. Because of the release of her second album, A Girl Like Me, after only 8 months, 'If Its Lovin That You Want' was her last International single off her first album. However, she did release a third, Let Me, but only in Japan, where it was a hit reaching #8 on the charts.

The single proved to be another success for Rihanna, peaking at #33 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, it was not successful as her previous single, "Pon De Replay", which peaked in the Top Five. Still, the song proved to be a hit in the US. In fact, the single fared better on other component charts to Billboard, including Hot 100 Airplay, peaking #6, and the Pop 100 Airplay, peaking at #5. On the worldwide scale it proved to be a a better hit, peaking at #2 in Poland and #1 in Slovakia. It also hit top 10 in Australia and New Zealand. The single also peaked in the top 5 of the UK charts and was retired on TRL Poland after spending 50 days on the countdown. This single became her first #1 crossover hit in the Philippines.

The music video for the song was shot in Malibu by director Marcus Raboy. Scenes of the video show a bonfire and belly dancing.
