InBev (Euronext: INB, NYSE: ABV) is a Brazilian Belgian brewery company, the world's largest producer of beer by income and volume[1] and the second largest alcoholic beverage company in the world after British giant Diageo. InBev also produces several soft drink brands. It employs about 77,000 people and is headquartered in Leuven, Belgium.

InBev was formed from a 2004 transaction involving the Belgian company Interbrew and the Brazilian company AmBev. When the transaction completed, InBev owned about 81% of the voting shares of AmBev.[1][2]

InBev has a 14% share in the global beer market. It is the dominant brewer in Belgium, Brazil, and much of Eastern Europe.[1] In 2005 it had a market capitalisation of €22.5 billion and net profits of €2.4 billion on sales of €11.6 billion.

Carlos Brito is the current Chief Executive Officer. Brito replaced John Brock at the end of 2005.[3] InBev's current Board of Directors include Arnoud de Pret Roose de Calesberg, Jean-Luc Dehaene, and Peter Harf (chairman).

Interbrew's origins can be traced to the founding of the Den Horen brewery in 1366. In 1717 the name of the brewery was changed to Artois when Sebastian Artois, the brewery's Master Brewer, purchased the brewery. Artois became a large and successful company, and in 1987 merged with Breweries Piedboeuf to form Interbrew, one of the world's largest brewers. The combined company grew rapidly by acquisition during the 1990s.

Ambev was a Brazilian beer company formed by a merger in 1999 between the Brahma and Antarctica breweries. It had a dominant position in South America and the Caribbean.

In 2004, the two companies merged to form InBev.

Inbev precursor Interbrew used the slogan: "The World's Local Brewer" but after combining with AmBev this was discontinued.

InBev caused protests, including one by the Flemish Parliament, when it announced in 2005 and confirmed in 2006 that it would move the Hoegaarden Brewery to the municipality of Jupille in Liège[citation needed].
