In the Flat Field is the debut album by British gothic rock band Bauhaus, released in 1980 on 4AD. As such, it is one of the first goth albums ever released.

The band produced it themselves, and while the album is a definitive document of gothic rock as a style, it does not strictly adhere to it on the recording. For example, the song "Dive" features guitarist Daniel Ash playing saxophone over a driving funk bassline. Most songs are driven by David's dark basslines, with Ash providing his distinct skreeching guitar style on top, showing that he had his own sound right from the start.

Upon its release, it received mostly poor reviews by the British music press, but has since then been included on various lists of the best gothic albums of all time.

In 1988, 4AD reissued the album with eight bonus tracks including the singles "Dark Entries," "Terror Couple Kill Colonel," and their cover of T. Rex's "Telegram Sam."
