The Institute of Business Administration, usually referred to by its acronym IBA, is a university in Karachi, Pakistan. It is the oldest business school in the world outside of North America, and is considered one of the premier business schools in Pakistan.
The recurrent theme of the 50 years of IBA's existence is that business education should be relevant and looking to the future. The IBA provides an enabling environment, conducive to scholarship and research. The faculty, staff, students and members of the industry work together to achieve learning goals. Students acquire knowledge and skills through constructive and distinctive processes that encourage them to develop understanding of business concepts and issues, think independently and to make rational choices.

The IBA was established in 1955 by the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. The Wharton School provided professors and assistance, to what would become the finest and most prestigious business school in Pakistan.
The IBA initially offered programs only for day scholars. In 1957, an Evening Program was started to cater to the needs of the numerous working executives and managers who were interested in furthering their careers through part-time business studies. In 1982, a three-year BBA (Honors) Program was introduced which has now been upgraded into a four-year BBA program. Till 1994, the University of Karachi awarded degrees to the graduates. In that year the Sindh Assembly elevated the Institute's status to that of a degree-awarding institution.
The Center for Computer Studies was established in 1983 with the collaboration of IBM, Pakistan. It initially offered a diploma in system analysis to overcome a shortage of software professionals in the country. It now offers BBA (MIS), MBA (MIS) and BCS (software engineering) programs.
In addition, a PhD program in MIS/Computer Science and Engineering/ICT has been launched from August 2005.
Department of Accounting is an integral part of the degree and non-degree programs at the IBA. The accounting program offers courses in the graduate and undergraduate programs and prepares students for careers such as the independent practice of public accounting, controllership, and general accounts management.
The Department of Management supports teaching and research in the areas of Human resource Management, Organizational Behavior, Strategic Management, and Organization Theory. MBA program concentrations in Human Resource Management prepare Masters’ students for tomorrow’s management challenges
The focus of the Marketing Department is on academic quality and excellence in very endeavor it undertakes. It provides intellectual leadership in academic research and stimulates open discussion of basic research questions. It offers programs at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Computer science is the study of computers and computational systems; their theory, design, development, and application. Principal areas within computer science studies include management information systems, artificial intelligence, computer systems and networks, numerical analysis, programming languages, software engineering, and theory of computing.
