International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) (Bengali: আন্তর্জাতিক ইসলামী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় চট্রগ্রাম )is one of the leading private universities of Bangladesh. It was founded in 1995 under the Private Universities Act of 1992 (Act no. 34 of 1992)[1]. Islamic University Chittagong Trust (IUCT) is the founder organization of this university. IIUC is still governed by IUCT[2]. It got Bangladesh Government approval on February 11, 1995.

The total space used for academic and administrative purposes is around 4,59,990 sft.

It currently (September, 2007) has 287 faculties where 183 of those are full time[3].

It has a good number students from both home and abroad. Currently (September, 2007) there are around 6000 students enrolled in IIUC.

About achievements[11]:

"Graded by the high powered team constituted by the Prime Minister in 2004 headed by the Chairman of UGC for evaluating the standard & quality of existing 57 (Fifty Seven) Private Universities."

"IIUC is the first private University which has been accredited by the Board of Accreditation for Engineering & Technical Education (BAETE) for fulfilling all requirements in its CSE and CCE/ETE programs."

So, it is the first Private University in Bangladesh accredited by BAETE.

IIUC offers scholarship for the studying students in each semester depending on various categories. It has a nice step to improve its faculties by giving scholarship under certain rules. About scholarships for faculties[12]:

"A good number of full time teachers are studying abroad for higher degrees with IIUC scholarship."

For such a scholarship, it selects current faculties or sometimes promising students and provides them scholarship for higher study in home or abroad.

IIUC has signed for several formal academic collaboration agreement called Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Under these agreements, students of IIUC are able to transfer their credits to the following universities and institutions[14]:

The university has three campuses. The first one is the main campus in Chawkbazar, Chittagong. The second one is female campus also in Chawkbazar, Chittagong and the third one is permanent campus in Kumira, chittagong.

IIUC organized many remarkable events such as National Computer Programming Contest (NCPC), Inter-university Programming Contest, IIUC Intra-university Programming Contest (IIUPC), IT Festival, Job Fair, Dynamic Leadership Training Camp (DLTC), Poem Recitation Workshop, Programming Workshop, Open Source Workshop, Hardware and Software Fairs and so on. In August, 2007 it organized Open Source Campaign-5[15] which was a proclaiming step for open source awareness in Chittagong even in Bangladesh. It was running from August 31 to September 1, 2007. It mainly focused on open source and its features, flexibilities and its opportunities in Bangladesh as well as in the whole world.
