Irving Plaza

Irving Plaza is a 1,200-person club/ballroom at 17 Irving Place and East 15th Street in New York City that was built in 1914.

It is adjacent to Union Square Park. The venue, which is open to all ages, hosts many local and touring, theatre, dance and music performing events in a variety of genres.

It was converted in the late 70's from an old Polish dance hall to a rock venue. Over the years, the 3-level auditorium has served as Polish Army Veterans headquarters, a Yiddish theater, a burlesque house (Gypsy Rose Lee stripped here), and a boxing arena.

It was announced that Live Nation a subsidiary of Clear Channel will reopen the club under the name of "Fillmore New York At Irving Plaza" on April 11, 2007, with British songstress Lily Allen as the opening act.[1] The nearby Fillmore East was a legendary rock club that was open from 1968 to 1971.
