Isabel of Coimbra

Isabel of Coimbra (Isabella of Portugal) (1432–December 2, 1455) was a princess of Portugal and the first wife of King Afonso V of Portugal.
She was a daughter of Infante Pedro, Duke of Coimbra and Isabel of Aragon. Her maternal grandfather was Jaume II, Count of Urgell.
Isabel and Afonso V were married on May 6, 1447. The bride was about fifteen years old and the groom only fourteen. They had thtee children:
- Prince John (January 29, 1451-1451)
- Princess Joan (February 6, 1452-May 12, 1490): Known as Saint Joan of Portugal or Saint Joan Princess. Canonized in 1693 by Pope Innocent XII.
- John II of Portugal (March 3, 1455-October 25, 1495): Succeeded his father as 13th King of Portugal.
