The Israel Central Bureau of Statistics (Hebrew: הלשכה המרכזית לסטטיסטיקה, HaLishka HaMerkazit LeStatistika), often abbreviated to CBS, is the Israeli government bureau commissioned with producing statistics to help better understand Israel. Established in 1949, its primary function is to perform and publish the results of statistical acts as to the population and its social, health, economic, commercial, industrial and other activities and as to the physical conditions of the country.[1]
It is headed by a Government Statistician, who is appointed on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.
