Italian Renewal

The Italian Renewal (Rinnovamento Italiano, RI) was an Italian political party.

It was founded in 1996 by Lamberto Dini (at that time prime minister) with some former-Liberals as Natale D'Amico, former Socialists as Tiziano Treu, former Christian Democrats as Augusto Fantozzi, former Republicans as Gianantonio Mazzocchin and former Social Democrats. The party joined the centre-left coalition called Olive Tree.

At the 1996 elections, which were contested in list with the Italian Socialists of Enrico Boselli and the Patto Segni, the party scored 4.3%: Lamberto Dini became minister of Foreign Affairs, while Tiziano Treu minister of Labour. In 2001-02 the party joined Democracy is Freedom - Daisy (DL).

RI members in DL form a faction within the party, named simply Renewal, which hold the 10% of party members.
