James Guthrie (b. November 14, 1953) is a British record producer best known for his work with the band Pink Floyd. Guthrie has worked on one of their biggest selling albums, The Wall as engineer and co-producer, and has subsequently worked with the band and its members in some form or another on all future products. He has supervised the remasterings of the Pink Floyd back catalog (receiving three Surround Music Awards for his 5.1 remaster of the 30th Anniversary edition of Dark Side of the Moon in 2003) and the remasters of Floyd guitarist David Gilmour's solo catalog. He received a Grammy for his engineering of Pink Floyd's The Wall in 1980 and a British Academy of Film and Television Arts award for Best Film Sound (for Pink Floyd The Wall) in 1982.
Guthrie has also produced Queensrÿche's 1984 album The Warning and Judas Priest's Hell Bent for Leather and "Better By You Better Than Me" from 1978's Stained Class as well as Ambrosia's 1982 album Road Island. He began his production career working with lesser-known cult bands best known for sophisticated adult oriented sounds, like Runner and The Movies. Guthrie also mastered Kate Bush's 2005 double album, Aerial.
He currently runs and owns his own studio das boot recording in South Lake Tahoe, California.
