James Russell Wiggins

James Russell Wiggins (December 4, 1903 in Luverne, Minnesota – November 19, 2000 in Brooklin, Maine) was the managing editor of The Washington Post from 1947 to 1966. He was president of the American Society of Newspaper Editors in 1959-60. James served as United States ambassador to the United Nations from 1968 to 1969 during the Lyndon Johnson presidency. In 1969 Wiggins received a LL.D. from Bates College. He received the prestigious Eugene Cervi Award from the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors in 1987, when he was publisher of the Ellsworth (Maine) American.
