Arthur Pappy Kenedy Prayer Breakfast
Arthur "Pappy" Kennedy was the first African-American elected to serve as an Orlando City Commissioner. During Mr. Kennedy's tenure, he served as a tireless advocate for the disenfranchised, improving the lives of many he touched in the community. In the spirit of "Pappy" Kennedy's legacy, the Southwest Orlando Jaycees in conjunction with the Central Florida YMCA is proud to sponsor a prayer breakfast in his honor each year on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. Since 1992, the event has served as an inter-faith forum to pray for all people, that they may serve the community with the degree of integrity that Mr. Kennedy so brillantly demonstrated.
A portion of funds raised from the breakfast supports the Arthur Pappy Kennedy Scholarship Fund. The fund awards a $1200 scholarship each year to an oustanding high-school senior for post-secondary study.
