Jim Dandy Stakes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jim Dandy Stakes is a race for thoroughbred horses. The Grade I Jim Dandy Stakes is raced at Saratoga Race Course each year. The race is open to horses age three, willing to race one and one-eighth miles on the dirt. It carries a purse of $500,000.

The Jim Dandy Stakes is run on the first Saturday of the meet and is named in honor of the 3 year old colt, Jim Dandy, who won the Travers Stakes of 1930 by beating Triple Crown winner, Gallant Fox. Jim Dandy went off at odds of 100 to 1—an upset for the ages.

Affirmed, Arts and Letters, and Conquistador Cielo have won the Jim Dandy.
