Josh Appell

Joshua A. Appell (born June 23, 1983) is a left-handed pitcher with the New York Mets farm team, the Brooklyn Cyclones.
He is 6'1" and weighs 195 pounds.
He grew up in Woodmere, New York, where he attended Hewlett High School, lettering in baseball, football, and soccer. He made all-division, all-conference, and all-county as a high school pitcher and center fielder for four straight years. He won the same honor twice for soccer. He is the first Hewlett HS alum to play professional baseball since Mike Russo was signed by the Kansas City Royals organization in 1998.[1]
Appell is a 2005 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.[2]
While at Penn, he also played on the football team as a punter and was selected first-team All-Ivy League in 2004. Before being signed by the Mets, he was given a tryout by the Buffalo Bills. [3]
In his pro baseball career, he started at the Gulf Coast Mets before going to Hagerstown and finally arriving in Brooklyn in 2006.[4]
Through 2006, in two minor league seasons he has averaged 7.5 hits, 6.9 walks, and 10.9 stikeouts per 9 innings.
