Jozef Tomko

Jozef Cardinal Tomko J.C.D. S.T.D. (born 11 March 1924, Udavské , near Humenné, Slovakia) is Prefect Emeritus of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and President Emeritus of the Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses.
Life:
- 12 March 1949 ordained priest in Roma, Italy
- 12 July 1979 appointed archbishop
- 15 September ordained bishop - Titular Archbishop of Doclea
- 12 July 1979 appointed as Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops
- 24 April 1985 appointed as Pro-Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples
- 25 May 1985 elevated to Cardinal
- 27 May 1985 appointed as Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples
- 9 April 2001 retired
- 23 October 2001 appointed as President of the Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses
- 1 October 2007 retired
He is currently Cardinal Priest of the Title of Santa Sabina.
