KKnD, or Krush, Kill 'n' Destroy is a series of real-time strategy games by Beam Software.
The first game, KKND: Krush, Kill 'n' Destroy, was released on March 25, 1997. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting, where two factions are fighting for control over the few natural resources left, like oil. The "Mutes" evolved on the surface and was mutated by the radiation, and uses mutant animals in place of technology. The other faction, who called themselves "Survivors" lived underground and employs conventional vehicles and weapons. Each faction has its own campaign consisting of 15 missions each. The multiplayer mode allows for up to 6 people to play via LAN or modem/serial connection.
KKND: Xtreme is an improved and extended version of KKND, released on October 31, 1997. [2]
The successor, KKND2: Krossfire, was released in 1998. [3]

The world of the future: flying cars, robot servants, global peace. An ideal future, yes? WRONG! Sometime in the year 2078 conflicts arose between the major nations of Earth. Time passed, but the sound of gunfire ceased to stop. When it seemed to never end the generals pushed the button. For a brief moment the sky was ablaze with dazzling fireworks. Then the nuclear warheads rained down on the planet, utterly destroying the surface.
But all was not lost, as a few pockets of humans managed to burrow under the Earth's crust before the nukes obliterated the upper world. They took with them what little they could carry. For years they dug beneath the grounds, salvaging what little they could. They lived off the few scraps of food they brought with them and various plants and animals they found. But it was soon apparent, they could no longer survive like this. They turned their attention to constructing machines to resurface and reclaim the world that was once theirs. When the first drill hit the surface the people rejoiced. As the first man pushed his head out, longing for the sight of the sun, he was instantly impaled upon a crude stick. They weren't the only ones who survived...
As the nuclear warheads dropped down on the earth, everyone fended for themselves. Only the strongest and the fastest were able to get through the gates before they closed. The remaining looked up as their fate closed in. Entire cities were leveled as the warheads vaporized everything but the very ground. When the dust cleared the few humans that survived the attack wondered if they were really better off than the dead.
Years passed, the radiation mutated the various wildlife and flora into monstrosities. Many were afraid to leave their makeshift homes in fear of becoming dinner. However they weren't safe from the radiation either. Their bodies shifted and grew. Their faces grew grotesque and their muscles spread. Soon the weak were dead, the strong ruled the lands. Fear of the animals were no longer in their minds. The Chiefs of each tribe suggested that the Gods, the Scourge, sent down their retribution in the form of the warheads that destroyed the earth. Thus, the new Evolved (mutant) dominated the surface of Earth until the Survivors appeared.
They formed crude weapons from the remains of the old world, their intelligence greatly dissipated in favor of strength. Their mutated bodies were far larger than any normal man and more grotesque than any other monster. One day they noticed the ground moving. Soon a man popped his head out. Seeing these "Semetrics" as hostile creatures they promptly shot the man's head off with a spear. They then charged in, their great monsters slaughtering scores of the enemy.
The Survivors salvaged the few remnants of the world they once knew, forging many weapons with their superior intellect. Their machines roared down the hills as they charged into battle. The battle has begun...
The Global powers are gone and your loyalty is defined by your genetic structure. There are initially 2 armies in which a player could use, both with similar troops:
The evolved army is made up of primarily mutants, be they animal or human, and of crude technology. Their units are:
- Berserker: the basic unit, good for nothing other than cannon fodder. They are slightly weaker than their Survivor counterpart but are cheaper.
- Scorpion: the evolved scorpion that squirts venom. Effective against infantry.
- Monster Truck: one of the few non-organic vehicles that Evolved use. Armed with machine guns, it is effective against infantry.
- SWAT: the elite infantry unit of the Survivors. Superior against the Berserker of the Evolved.
- Sappers: Grenade throwing infantry, effective against buildings and slow-moving targets.
- RPG: Rocket Propelled Grenade launching infantry. Inaccurate, but highly destructive when used in groups or against large targets
- Flamer: Slow infantry with a heavy flamethrower effective against vehicles and buildings.
- Sniper: Expert Marksman capable of inflicting large damage against almost any target.
- Dirt Bike: A basic two-stroke bike carrying a single infantryman equipped with a sub-machine gun. Effective scout.
- 4x4: Large pick-up truck equipped with a machine gun. Fast, but lightly armoured.
- ATV: Rapid 6 wheeled vehicle equipped with a heavy machine gun and a decent range. Effective against infantry and light vehicles.
- Flame ATV: Upgraded ATV equipped with a flamethrower that is effective against vehicles and buildings.
- Anaconda Tank: Heavy tracked vehicle that sports a massive cannon. Deals large damage to any target but has a slow reload time.
- Hovercraft. Floating vehicle equipped with a 6-shot ripple-volley rocket launcher. Capable of inflicting massive damage in an area to almost every target, but has a very slow reload time, slow moving and lightly armoured.
- Autocannon Tank: Massive tank equipped with a huge rotary cannon that fires heavy shells. Long-range, high constant damage and tough armour offsets its unwieldy size and lack of speed. Capable of ripping through infantry with ease and is also effective against vehicles and buildings.
