KXXM FM San Antonio, "Mix 96.1" is a contemporary hit radio station owned by Clear Channel Communications. Signed on as a rock-based CHR in 1998, 96.1 in San Antonio was previously Urban AC as 96.1 KSJL. That format would be moved to the AM dial in 1998. Even before that, two other radio stations graced the same frequency: Q96 KSAQ a Top 40 radio station until 1991 and 96 Rock KSAQ a competitor to 99.5 KISS until 1993.
KXXM has had three morning shows during its CHR days: Deb & Dean (1998-2002), The Woody Show (2002-2004), Kidd Kraddick In The Morning (2004-present).
Interestingly, this is the same format that Clear Channel calls "Kiss FM" in most other markets. However, there is an unrelated KISS-FM, a rock station, in San Antonio; that KISS-FM is owned by Cox Radio and Clear Channel has apparently shown no interest in infringing on it.
