Kailash Mansarovar (Manasarovar) is a holy place in Tibet.

The place is considered sacred by Hindus, Buddhists and Jains. This area is located north of the Himalayas and consists of the twin lakes of Manasarovar and Rakshas Tal, and Mount Kailash.

Hindus believe that Mount Kailash is the abode of Lord Shiva. Lake Manasarovar is worshipped whereas waters of Rakshas Tal are supposed to be unholy. The Indus river, Satluj and Brahmaputra rivers originate from this region.

The Government of China opened the area to Indian pilgrims in 1981 after receiving a request from Subramanian Swamy.
