Karen L. Magnussen

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karen Magnussen was a "RollerJam" skater and a Junior Olympic speedskating title holder.

Karen Magnussen (born June 28, 1974 in Brooklyn, New York) skated three seasons with the roller derby show "RollerJam", starting in 1999. She was the women's squad captain for her first team, the New York Enforcers. She was known for her speed and no-nonsense approach to the game. Karen preferred to stay out of the spotlight for much of her television skating career; however, that is not to say she was without any drama. When commanded to strip by her fellow team captain, Mark D'amato, Karen adamantly refused and left the New York Enforcers for the Nevada Hot Dice. It was with the Hot Dice that Karen found her niche as a powerful all-around player, often doing triple duty as blocker, jammer, and pivot skater all in one game.

After "RollerJam" folded, Karen resumed her career as a licensed aircraft mechanic in Florida, where she currently lives with her husband. She continues to skate and compete in local competitions but has no plans to return to roller derby.

  • Attended Catholic school from grades K through 12.
  • Was the only RollerJam skater to turn down a photo spread for the "Women of RollerJam" calendar.
  • Graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.
