Karlstad Municipality (Karlstads kommun) is one of Sweden's 290 municipalities, situated in Värmland County in western Sweden. The city Karlstad constitutes the municipality seat.
The present municipality was established in 1971 when the former City of Karlstad was amalgamated with a number of surrounding rural municipalities
