From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Katharine Houghton, an American actress, was born Katharine Houghton Grant on March 10, 1945, in Hartford, Connecticut. She attended Sarah Lawrence College and majored in philosophy.

Katharine Houghton is best known for her role as Joanna "Joey" Drayton, the Caucasian ingenue with an African-American fiancé, whom she brings home to meet her parents, in the 1967 film Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.

Houghton has had an extensive career in film and theatre. She is also a playwright and has translated the works of others for the stage. In 1975, she wrote a children's story, "The Wizard's Daughter", which is collected in the book Two Beastly Tales, illustrated by Joan Patchen.

In 2004 she portrayed Mrs. Spaulding, one of the trustees of Indiana University, in the feature film Kinsey, starring Liam Neeson and Laura Linney.

She is married to Ken Jenkins (Bob Kelso on Scrubs) and they have three sons.
