Katherine Hanley
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Katherine Hanley is currently Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia. She was appointed to that post in 2006 by Governor Tim Kaine following the Virginia General Assembly's rejection of his first nominee, state AFL-CIO President Daniel G. LeBlanc. She previously served as Chair of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors from 1995 to 2003, and as a County Supervisor from 1986 to 1995. In late 2003, she briefly considered a primary challenge to U.S. Congressman Jim Moran in the following year's U.S. House race, but dropped out of the race in December. Following Kaine's election as Governor in November, 2005, she was rumored to be a possible contender for Virginia Secretary of Transportation, but was passed over in favor of incumbent Secretary Pierce Homer.
