Kennametal is a metalworking and tool production company headquartered in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, a city some 50 miles from Pittsburgh. The corporation specializes in advanced engineering and in the creation of products for high-tech or complex industries. Advanced materials such as tungsten carbide, specialty steels, diamonds, and heat and pressure resistant synthetics, are produced by Kennametal for heavy duty industries. In March 2005, Kennametal purchased the Extrude Hone Corporation. In announcing the acquisition, the companies expressed the view that combining Extrude Hone's techniques with Kennametal's broad technological experience, and worldwide operations would enhance their ability to serve their customers in the future.
