Keyshia Michelle Cole (born October 15, 1981) is an Multi-Grammy Award nominated American , R&B singer-songwriter, and record producer known for her soulful voice. She released her platinum selling debut album The Way It Is in 2005, and her second album Just Like You in 2007.

Cole grew up in Oakland, California.Her mother's drug addiction led to her becoming a foster child adopted by Yvonne Cole at the age of 2. She has said that her music brother, Sean Cole and Tupac Shakur were close friends . Sean Cole raps under the alias "Nutt-So", and recorded several songs with Shakur before his death.[citation needed] Keyshia's first recordings were with MC Hammer at the age of twelve.[1] In the early 2000s, she appeared on tracks by San Francisco Bay Area artists including Tony! Toni! Toné!'s D'Wayne Wiggins and San Francisco rapper Messy Marv.[2].

Cole was inspired by her ex-boyfriend's mother to further pursue her career, so she left the Bay Area with a rented car and two hundred dollars after catching her boyfriend cheating.[3] She moved to Los Angeles and within several months of her arrival, had attracted the attention of Interscope president Ron Fair, who in turn recommended her to chairman Jimmy Iovine, for whom she performed an early version of "Love" in June/July 2002. She was signed by then A & R rep Fair in December 2002. Cole started recording her debut album soon after. In 2003 she made her first solo appearance on the Biker Boyz soundtrack with the track "Get Up". In 2004, Cole made another solo appearance on the track "Never", taken from the Barbershop 2: Back in Business soundtrack with rapper Eve.She currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.

Cole released her debut album, The Way It Is, on June 21, 2005 and the album has since been certified platinum. Cole Released her first single "I Changed My Mind" hitting # 71 on the billboard hot 100 and # 23 on the R&B/Hip Hop charts. Next Cole released her second single "(I Just Want It) To Be Over" which just missed the Hot 100 by one spot but hit # 30 on the R&B/Hip Hop charts. Cole would go on to be more successful with releasing her third single "I Should Have Cheated" which hit # 30 on the Hot 100 and # 4 on the R&B/Hip Hop Charts making this her first single to enter the top 10 on that chart. Cole's fourth and last release from her debut album "Love" would go on to be her most successful single from her debut album hitting # 19 on the Hot 100 and # 3 on the R&B/Hip Hop charts. This would make her first single to enter the top 20 on the Hot 100. To further promote the album, Cole starred in her own six-episode reality show, Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is. It premiered on BET on July 12, 2006 and ended on August 16, 2006. It was also promoted with rapper DMX's reality show as well.

Cole released Just Like You on September 25, 2007, debuting at #2 on the Billboard chart, selling 281,000 copies in its first week. Just Like You has been certified Gold in the U.S. and the album has sold 720,000 copies as of December 6th, 2007.

The first single, "Let It Go " featuring Lil Kim & Missy Elliott.[4] became her first #1 on Billboard's R&B chart, and her biggest hit on the Hot 100, peaking at #7. Her second single, "Shoulda Let You Go," debuted at #88 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is climbing.

In conjunction with her album release, BET began airing the second season of Cole's reality show "Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is" on October 30. The show premiered to record breaking ratings for Black Entertainment Television, as the top returning series premiere in BET history, as well as the No. 1 original series premiere of the year. [5]

She will be making an appearance in an MTV film this year titled "How She Moves" as herself.[6]

Keyshia graced the October covers of Sister 2 Sister and Essence magazine. She is also featured on the cover of VIBE [7] & Dub magazine's December 2007 issues.

The video for Keyshia Cole's third single "I Remember," premiered on BET's Access Granted on December 5, 2007.

On December 6, 2007 Keyshia Cole scored 2 Grammy Nominations: Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (Let It Go) and Best Contemporary R&B Album (Just Like You).
