Khalifatul Maish or Khalifat-ul Maish (Successor of the Messiah) sometimes simply referred to as Khalifah or Caliph is the elected spiritual leader of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Jama'at-i-Ahmadiyya and the successor of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian. This is believed to be a Divinely guided office, continuing the same divine communion which the founder Mirza Ghulam Ahmad is said to have enjoyed.
The members of the community believe that Khalifatul Maish is the second manifestation of the Khalifat (first being the Khilafat e Rashida (of Righteous Caliphs) which ended with Ali, the son-in-law of Muhammad) and that God has assured Ahmadi Muslims that this Khalifat will endure to the end of time. The Khalifat provides unity, security and progress for the Jama’at-i-Ahmadiyya.
Members of the Lahore Ahmadiyya Movement, or Ahmadiyya Anjuman Ishaat-i-Islam, (who also call themselves Ahmadi-Muslims) do not subscribe to this belief.
